About the Millners

We live, along with our companion dogs, in beautiful High Point, North Carolina. Although today we are dedicated to the Briard, Merry Jeanne grew up showing American Saddle Horses—a passion that her entire family shared and that took MJ all the way to two Junior Exhibitor World Championships!

We fell into Briards through what we call dumb luck. In 1986, purchased out of the newspaper, our first French sheepdog Churchill became, what would turn out to be, the first of a long line of Briard companions.

As many newspaper classified dogs do, Churchill had many health issues. In spite of the fact that he was poorly bred and physically unhealthy, his heart was pure Briard. Churchill was the love of our lives. His great spirit and deep desire to please taught us a lot about the dog world, Obedience and Agility training and dogs in general. Falling in love with this breed gave us a deep-seated desire to protect the breed and nurture it's future. So, we began searching for "our kind of Briard" with the guidance of people such as Rob Ferber and Linda Wells and many others.

Our first good one was Gilli. A moderate bitch of good bone and proper type, and we felt that if she could transmit these great qualities to her progeny, Gilli would be a great asset to the breed.

We will admit, however, that it was Gilli's great beauty that ignited our competitive spirits. Gilli quickly finished her title but it was her quality as a brood bitch that was truly remarkable. You can read all about Gilli's accomplishments, and meet the other Sendero Briards, in the Our Dogs pages of this Web site.

We share our home with Briards we have bred, and those we have selected from other breeders from all over the world to continue to improve the breed. The Briards are the center of our lives.

Tommy and I are active in the AKC, as delegates. Tommy is a Board Member of Take the Lead. We are both active in the Briard Club of America, and travel many miles each year showing our Briards, learning more about the breed, and sharing what we have learned with those who are just discovering this marvelous breed.
